Social Responsibility
Cannock Chase Crematorium will conduct business ethically and with sensitivity towards social, cultural, economic and environmental issues.
Respect our past
The crematorium is built on the site of the Bleak House opencast coalmine. We recognise that this is an area with a proud mining heritage, and we want to make sure we offer a lasting legacy to the local people who worked at the site.
As families gather to remember someone special, they will also see references to the history of mining in the area – acknowledging the story of the land and the community around it.
Source locally
We want to support the local economy by employing local people and, wherever possible, sourcing services and supplies from neighbouring businesses.
For us, social responsibility also means helping the surrounding community benefit from the presence of the crematorium in a meaningful and practical way.
Protect our environment
The site is home to a wide variety of bats, birds, invertebrates and plants. We will continue to develop wildlife habitats through careful management and thoughtful stewardship of the grounds.
All of our working practices are managed with the aim of reducing our carbon footprint and protecting the natural setting that surrounds us.
Some of our charity partners
Working with the local branch of SANDS, we have designed Charlie’s Garden for infants and babies. This special space will be open to everyone who has a young life to remember.
Our staff also raise money for local charities, and every pound they raise is matched by the crematorium. We also give families the opportunity to support these causes when arranging a service.
